How to Play Dice Football
🏈
Fast, head-to-head football action with just two dice.
Roll the plays. Move the ball. Manage the clock.
Score more than your opponent in 4 quarters.
🔧 Setup
Players: 2
You’ll Need:
- 2 dice
- 1 possession peg per team
- 1 field position peg per team
- 1 peg for Quarter
- 1 peg for Down
- 2 score pegs per team
Starting Position:
- Place both teams’ field pegs on their own 20-yard line.
- Roll one die each — highest roll starts with possession.
- Place the possession peg on the starting team.
- Set the Quarter peg to 1st.
- Set the Down peg to 1st Down.
🗺 Understanding the Field
The field is laid out in a 5 yard staggered design so both teams advance toward their opponents endzone from their own side.
- Each team moves from their 20-yard line toward midfield, then continues into their opponent’s side.
- When your peg crosses into the opponent’s end zone — that’s a Touchdown.
- Yard markers are shared, so pay attention to direction — you’re always moving toward the opposite end zone.
🎲 How a Drive Works
Dice Football flows like real football — one drive at a time.
Downs & First Downs
- You have 4 downs to gain 10 yards.
- Roll both dice and check the result chart on the board.
- Move your ball peg according to the result.
- Advance the Down peg after each play.
- If you gain 10 yards before 4th down → First Down!
Reset the Down peg to 1 and continue your drive.
Fail to gain 10 yards on 4th down? Possession switches.
🚨 Turnovers
Possession changes immediately if:
- The dice result shows Interception or Fumble,
- You fail to convert on 4th down, or
- You choose to punt.
When possession changes:
- Move the possession peg to your opponent.
- The ball stays where the play ended (unless the result specifies movement).
- Reset Down to 1st.
🅿️ Punting
On 4th down, you may choose to punt instead of running a normal play.
- Roll one die.
- Move the ball forward that many 10-yard increments.
- If the punt reaches the end zone, the receiving team starts at their 20-yard line.
- Possession switches after the punt.
🪙 Kickoffs
At the start of each half and after every score:
Roll both dice:
-
12 = Touchdown
-
3–11 = Start at the 20-yard line
-
2 = Start at the 50-yard line
🏆 Field Goals
On 4th down, instead of running a play, you may attempt a field goal.
Roll both dice:
- From the 20-yard range: 6+ = Good
- From the 30-yard range: 8+ = Good
- From the 40-yard range or longer: 10+ = Good
Made field goal = 3 points
Missed field goal = opponent takes possession at the spot of the kick.
➕ After a Touchdown
You may attempt:
Extra Point
- Roll two dice.
- 6 or higher = Good (+1 point)
Two-Point Conversion
- Roll two dice.
- 10 or higher = Good (+2 points)
🧠 Scoring
- Touchdown: 6 points
- Extra Point: 1 point
- Two-Point Conversion: 2 points
- Field Goal: 3 points
Track points using your team’s score pegs.
⏳ Quarters & Game End
The game is played in 4 quarters.
Each team gets two possessions per quarter
(eight total possessions per team for the game).
After both teams complete two possessions, move the Quarter peg forward.
Halftime occurs after the 2nd quarter.
After the 4th quarter, the game ends.
🏁 Tie Game?
Each team gets one possession in overtime.
If still tied, continue sudden death possessions until one team outscores the other.
