How to Play Dice Baseball

Dice Baseball is a fast-paced tabletop game that uses dice and pegs to simulate a baseball game. Players roll dice to determine hits and outs, advance runners around the bases, and score runs over nine innings.

Important: This version uses the dice results chart engraved on your board. Each roll’s outcome is shown on the top panel of the game.

What you’ll need

  • 2 standard dice
  • 12 pegs
    • 5 pegs per side (for runners, outs, and tracking what’s in play)
    • 2 pegs for tracking runs
  • A folding Dice Baseball game board with the outcomes chart on the top panel
  • 2 players or teams

Objective

Score more runs than your opponent by the end of nine innings.

Board areas

  • Bases: Use pegs to mark runners on 1st, 2nd, and 3rd.
  • Outs: Use the outs area to track 0–3 outs for the current half-inning.
  • Runs: Use the run-tracking pegs to record each side’s score.
  • Dugout / Off-field spots: Use the “resting” peg spots to hold pegs that are not currently on base or being used for outs.

Set up

  • Choose which side bats first.
  • Place both run-tracking pegs at 0.
  • Set outs to 0.
  • Place each side’s unused pegs in the dugout/off-field spots.

Taking an at-bat

  1. Roll both dice.
  2. Find the outcome on the dice results chart printed on the board.
  3. Apply the result (hit, out, or other outcome) using the rules below.

The batting side continues rolling until three outs are recorded.

Applying results

Outs

  • If the chart indicates an Out, add one out on the outs track.
  • When the third out occurs, the half-inning ends immediately.
  • Clear all runners from the bases and reset outs to 0 for the next half-inning.

Hits

If the chart indicates a hit, advance runners as follows:

  • Single: Advance all runners one base; place the batter on 1st.
  • Double: Advance all runners two bases; place the batter on 2nd.
  • Triple: Advance all runners three bases; place the batter on 3rd.
  • Home Run: All runners score, and the batter scores.

Any runner who moves past home plate scores one run. Move the batting side’s run peg forward for each run scored.

Other outcomes (if shown on your board)

Some boards include extra results (for example: Walk, Strikeout, Flyout, etc.). If your chart includes these, follow the chart’s instructions and use the closest matching rule above (usually either an Out or a type of Hit / base advance).

Innings

  • Each inning has two halves: one for each side to bat.
  • After both sides have batted, advance to the next inning.
  • Play nine innings.

Winning the game

After nine innings, the side with the most runs wins.

If the game is tied, play extra innings until a winner is determined.

Using the dugout / off-field peg spots

  • Keep any pegs not currently being used for runners or outs in the dugout/off-field area.
  • When a runner scores or an inning ends, return those runner pegs to the dugout/off-field area.
  • This keeps the bases and outs area easy to read during play.
